TAPI stands for Telephone Applications Programming Interface and is a small piece of software (a driver) that links the Voipfone service to other software that you may have on your PC such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express and some CRM packages like Sage and Act!
When installed, it means that you can make calls to people in the contacts sections of those applications simply by clicking on the name of the contact in your directory. No more dialling.
What does it do?
With the TAPI installed you can click on the name of the person you want to call in your Address Book or Contacts Directory and you will be connected to that telephone number, no more dialling!

What does it work with?
There are two versions of the software.
1. A TAPI specifically for Microsoft Outlook (For Outlook Express use the General TAPI and follow the instructions below).
2. A general TAPI that should work with any software that uses the TAPI standard. Try it with Sage, Lotus Notes (Domino), ACT! etc and let us know how you get on.
How do I use it?
It's quite straightforward:
For Microsoft Outlook users
1. Have your 8 digit account number and 6 digit password ready. For Virtual PBX users you should use the eight digit account number followed by the extension number in the format 3XXXXXXX*2XX 2. Close Outlook 3. Download the software (below) and run it.
4. Open Outlook
5. In Contacts, right click on the contact you wish to call.
6. Choose ˜Call Contact" then ˜Start Call"
7. Your own phone will ring. When you answer you will be connected to your contact.
General Purpose TAPI for Microsoft Outlook Express Users and Other Software
1. Have your 8 digit account number and 6 digit password ready. For Virtual PBX users you should use the eight digit account number followed by the extension number in the format 3XXXXXXX*2XX 2. Close Outlook Express 3. Download the software (below) and run it.
4. Go to Start, My Computer, Control Panel and double click on Phone & Modem 5. Open the Advanced tab, Add, and choose the Voipfone TAPI Driver, OK, Close 6. Open Outlook Express 7. In Contacts, right click on the contact you wish to call.
8. Choose ˜Call Contact" then ˜Start Call"
9. Your own phone will ring. When you answer you will be connected to your contact.
For other TAPI supported products
Follow the instructions for Outlook Express as far as you can. You will then need to check your manual about how your specific Software works with TAPI. We would be grateful for any information on how you get on with this.
